2015 Face Off Against Cancer raises over $88K

2015 Face Off Against Cancerrenegades-1

2015 Face Off Against Cancer Tournament raised over $88,000.00 to assist in paying some medical bills that each teams recipient has accrued.  This year’s tournament featured 10 teams from Bucks, Chester & Delaware County with each team playing three round robin games and then the top four teams vying for two championships.  Each team fundraises in the name of a recipient that they have chosen.  Many of the recipients and their families come to the tournament to support the team playing on the ice that has supported them in their fight off the ice.  The day was filled with food, fun & hockey, featuring musical performances outside, street hockey and blow up games for the kids, raffles, bbq, meet and greet with Flyers Legend Bernie Parent and the Face Off Against Cancer All-Stars vs the Flyers Alumni.  The highlight of the day for many was the unveiling and presentation of the Inaugural Barry Burgoyne Resilience award.  The Barry Burgoyne Resilience Award was created to honor a husband, father, brother, teammate, and so much more. Barry took part in the Inaugural 2013 FOAC Tournament as a player while fighting sarcoma.  In typical Barry fashion he was back in 2014 giving back by raising funds and working with the FOAC team to make the event a success.  He worked tirelessly to keep a positive attitude while helping others facing off against cancer.

FOACBarry passed away August 20, 2014, several short weeks before the tournament.  Personifying Barry’s commitment to family, friends, teammates and the FOAC family Barry endeavored to move the cause forward to the last.  The Barry Burgoyne Resilience Award celebrates his life and is awarded to a FOAC tournament player that best exemplifies the traits that made Barry the person that he was.  This year’s award was presented to Mike Kurman,  some know him as the official photographer of the event but has a much deeper connection to the organization.  Kurm as he is known,  had to hang the skates up after suffering multiple concussion but, stays involved in hockey and the Face Off Against Cancer Organization.  Kurm continues to fundraise and also volunteers as the official photographer of the event as well as other events associated with the Face Off Against Cancer Organization.  Hats off to Kurm, Well deserved.
